I have met many of individuals in the sport of wrestling. I would have to say that Captain Lou Albano is my favorite of all time. He was an entertainer, wrestler, wrestling manager, actor, and successful in everything he did. His over-the-top personality with his boisterous comments created a character that will never be forgotten in this sport. He knew how to entertain as well as enrage a crowd at the drop of a dime. Many of times when I was a kid did I want to see my favorite wrestler get his hands on Albano and he would do his “funny run” around the ring until his wrestler would hit him from the back?

I met Lou Albano back in 2007 at a Hollywood Collectors Show in Orlando. My Family decided to spend the weekend at this show and truly ‘mark out”. I was in the lobby on Friday evening when I noticed Lou Albano enter the hotel. The rubber bands in his beard gave it away and he had lost quite a bit of weight from the times he was on television.

I have never really been the shy person and had gone over to introduce myself to him. We started talking and before you knew it we were in the hotel bar drinking and reminiscing about the good old days. We talked about the time Snuka was hit with the coconut on PIPER’S PIT, when they made him dress up in a pumpkin outfit for the Tuesday Night program, and all the wrestlers that was in his stable at one time or another.

We laughed, and drank beers and Greg Valentine, Virgil, and Cindi Williams from Laverne and Shirley came by to pay their respects to Lou. This evening will always be special in my mind as one of the best I had ever experienced in my life. The man is a gentleman and so charismatic that time just flew out the window. It got to be midnight and we parted ways for the night.

When the show was closing down that Sunday, I asked Lou if I could take a picture with him. He said by all means and this turned out to be the avator on all the wrestling boards.
I can say that I will not be changing it in the near future.

As a memorial to Captain Lou Albano, I have made a list all of all the tag team and single champions that he has managed. I am sure if there is wrestling in Heaven, he will have a winning team. This is a fan of old school wrestling and this is written BY THE MARK.
